  • Wednesday 30 March 2022 PE on the Tennis Courts This term in PE, we have been learning how to play tennis. As a chance to practise our skills, we visited the Northleach tennis courts. We had great fun playing on an actual court and were able to use all of the skills we have learnt to hit the ball over the net. Some of us even moved onto having a rally with our partner.
  • Tuesday 8 March 2022 Aerial and Ground Level Photographs Today we have using our school garden to compare aerial and ground level views. We started our lesson by looking at our school from above using aerial photographs on Google Maps. We then went into our school garden and looked at what we could see at ground level. Using both of these view points, we then compared the differences in what we had seen, for example we couldn't see the outdoor classroom in the aerial photographs because the trees were in the way.
  • Friday 4 March 2022 World Book Day Yesterday we had a great day during World Book Day. We had some amazing costumes on display in Year 1 and did lots of reading activities throughout the day. We thought about our favourite books and created some reading materials for our class display. We then used books from our school library to complete a 'scavenger hunt'. We also heard lots of stories - Poo in the Zoo was a particular favourite and enjoyed selecting new books at the book swap.
  • Friday 28 January 2022 Recreating The Great Fire of London Yesterday we recreated our own version of The Great Fire of London on the school playground. We used carboard boxes to represent the houses and matches as the starting point for our fire.
  • Monday 17 January 2022 First Aid Today we had a special visitor who came in and taught us some basic first aid skills. We talked about how to contact the emergency services on 999, as well as thinking about any hazards we may find around our homes and school. We then had great fun trying out CPR on the dummies (something we know not to try at home) and finally we learnt how to apply bandages to arms, legs and heads.
  • Wednesday 5 January 2022 The Great Fire of London Today we started to learn about our topic for this term - The Great Fire of London. We enjoyed learning about how and where the fire started, what caused it to create so much damage and how the people at the time tried to stop it spreading. We will be learning much more throughout the rest of the term.
  • Tuesday 4 January 2022 Winter Walk Today we have been learning about the season of winter. We thought about what changes we see with animals, weather, day length and the clothes that we wear. As part of our lesson, we then went on a walk around our school grounds to see what signs of winter we could spot. We noticed lots of bare trees and also felt the cold air. We were very glad to have our coats to keep us warm!
  • Tuesday 23 November 2021 Tiger Child Yesterday morning, we were very shocked in Year 1 to find a tiger had been to visit our classroom over the weekend. The tiger left us a few clues from its visit including a special story to read. The story is called 'The Tiger Child'. Over the last few days we have begun to learn the story by putting actions to it whilst using our text map.
  • Thursday 4 November 2021 Indian Food Tasting As an introduction to our topic on India, today we have been tasting a variety of Indian foods. Everybody sampled some of each food type and then offered their opinion on their likes/dislikes. Some of us really enjoyed all of the foods and others of us weren't so keen. We thought about words we could use to describe each food, for example 'delicious', 'scrumptious', 'spicy', 'sweet' and 'mild'.
  • Monday 1 November 2021 Autumn Explorers Today we went on an exploration around school looking for any signs of Autumn. Before we went outside we discussed some of the changes we may notice and then worked in pairs to note down anything we spotted. We found many different changes including leaves changing colours and falling off the trees and lots of spiders webs. Can your child tell you about our autumn walk?
