Willow Class British Science Week

This year, the theme of British Science Week was ‘Curiosity: What’s your Question?’.

We had the question: what design is the best for a paper aeroplane? We investigated how different wing sizes affected the distance a paper aeroplane could travel. This led us to then ask the question – can paper be made to fly in any other shape? We then had lots of fun creating paper helicopters and seeing what factors affected how many seconds they could stay of the ground.

As an extra little fun activity (continuing with our theme of paper and linking to our recent art with colour mixing) we enjoyed creating kitchen roll rainbows using water, food colouring and rolled up kitchen roll. Our predictions were correct – the water was absorbed by the kitchen roll and the two primary colours then mixed when they met in the middle of the paper!
