Maple In the Net
What a fantastic start Maple have had to the half term! First thing on Monday morning, we got on a mini-bus and went to Bourton-on-the-Water Primary School to watch a very entertaining play called ‘In The Net’. Organised by the Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership, this interactive drama presentation covered a range of topics around internet safety and the real-world effects of cyber-bullying.
The play tells the story of Dotty, a young girl who has just got a shiny new ipad for her birthday, but she’s not being too safe online. She’s posting personal information, chatting to strangers and making rude comments about school friends. When her behaviour results in her being pulled into the computer Dotty finds herself caught ‘In the Net’ and she must go on a hero’s journey – a hero’s journey to find out how to be safer and nicer to people online.
Issues that were covered included:
- Safe Internet/Social Media Use
- Keeping personal information safe
- Digital footprints
- The effects of cyber-bullying on others
- What to do if you are being cyber-bullied
- What to do when you get that ‘Uh-Oh!’ feeling
- What to do if you have questions or concerns when using the internet
Year 4 really enjoyed the performance! It was a fantastic way to re-enforce their understanding of how to stay safe when using the internet.
