A Rainbow of Colours

This term in Science the children are learning all about light. This week they have been investigating The Visible Spectrum and were amazed to learn that light is made up of all the colours in the rainbow.

To investigate this they shone a torch through bubbles, created from washing up liquid, and watched the swirling colours: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet! We then discussed why we see objects as the colours that they are. They were amazed to learn that bananas appear yellow as they reflect yellow wavelengths of light but in actual fact are blue-ish in colour because they absorb the opposite colour on the colour wheel, blue.
